Many of us believe it requires significant money to make our free time more enjoyable.

While it might be true for some people, several activities could make the day exciting without spending too much. You have to unleash your childlike imagination.

That said, we’re going to have a look at some of these wallet-friendly activities. So without further ado, here are eight creative ways to have fun on a budget.

Dust off Your Old Console Games

Remember the time you spent with your childhood friends playing video games many years ago? If you’re thinking of doing something fun and nostalgic, you better start dusting off your old console games.

Call your friends, for old times’ sake, and start bashing those controller buttons with them.

Take the fun a step further by having a contest with your mates. Choose a game, then compete against each other. The losing player has to award the winner a prize, such as a treat to a nearby cafe.

Camping in the Backyard With Your Kids

According to research, around 44% of holidays in September 2020 alone were spent by Aussies camping and caravanning. It goes to show how fun and exciting this activity is. However, let’s face it; it requires a budget for petrol which could be expensive.

Turning your backyard into a campsite is the way to go if you’re on a budget but want to spend the night camping with your kids. You can have a tent pitched, build a campfire, and grill dinner there. You can also play the guitar, sing songs, or share campsite stories with your children.

Have a Spa Day at Home

After a long week at work, having a spa day with friends would make your Saturday more fun. The good thing is you don’t have to go and spend money on expensive spas and beauty salons. Instead, you can do it in the comfort of your home.

So, invite your friends to come over. Set the mood by playing your favourite relaxation songs and lighting some scented candles. Treat your face and skin with home ingredients such as cocoa and applesauce. You could also prepare refreshing drinks for you and your friends.

Have a Budget Cook-off With Your Friends

Having a cook-off with your friends is another way to have fun that wouldn’t require a huge budget. Talk to your mates about it and then agree on the type of food to prepare for this challenge.

However, ensure that each contestant spends only a set amount of dollars on the ingredients.

Set a date and a venue by deciding who among the participants will host the event. On the day of the contest, take turns in preparing the food. When everyone is done cooking, taste the food, have a mini party and vote on the best wallet-friendly dish.

Create a Family Time Capsule

Creating a time capsule allows the whole family to bond and have fun together. Furthermore, it only costs a little to make one.

Ask your spouse and children to hand over personal belongings such as photographs, pens, lipsticks, wallets, handkerchiefs, and jewellery. You may add newspaper clippings and a list of each family member’s favourite songs, books, and movies.

So, grab a reliable container, set a date on when to open it, and then tuck it away in a safe place. You could either keep it somewhere in the house or bury it in the garden. Just make sure that you take note of the spot.
